Alex Soteriades, Art / EMDR Psychotherapist

Hi, I’m Alex.

Firstly, thank you for stopping by.

Second, I understand it can be very daunting to meet a therapist and it takes a lot of strength and courage to acknowledge that you need help.

As humans, we possess an emotional spectrum, but trauma has the power to anchor us firmly in feelings of pain, hurt, suffering, loss or helplessness.

BeyondWords was borne from a deep-rooted belief that everyone deserves a safe space to explore these emotions. Somewhere that they can experience unconditional acceptance, positive reflection and enduring hope.

Though the journey is very personal, I will always endeavour to make it as comfortable as I can.

Experience

I have been a mental health practitioner for seven years and hold professional training in both individual and group therapy. My experience and training has equipped me with the skills to assess and draw on a range of theories and modalities when working with clients.

These theories and modalities are informed by psychodynamic theory, neuroscience, narrative exposure therapy and mindfulness. In addition to this, I have experience working within the principles of DBT (dialectical behavioural therapy) providing skills and techniques to help ground and regulate emotional states.

Many of us experience the world through our bodies so, as part of my practice, I incorporate body-based interventions including experiential, somatic and sensory work.

Current work

As a permanent member of the general psychiatric team at the Priory Hospital, I run weekly groups including trauma psycho-education, mindfulness practice, psychotherapy and art therapy.

I also provide individual therapy for patients struggling with generalised anxiety, depression and trauma (including PTSD and Complex PTSD).

Prior to this, I worked exclusively with fostered and adopted children, providing comprehensive assessment and treatment for developmental trauma and attachment difficulties.
